And this from Coach Cliff:
There is a cultural myth that abounds in the U.S. Not sure about other countries, but we have it BIG time. And that myth is: “I can do it myself. I don’t need any help.”.
Have that myth in your very bones? Then the following from Oprah will be quite a shock to the bones.
"You can't do it all yourself. Don't be afraid to rely on others to help you accomplish your goals." -Oprah Winfrey
Is asking for help easy? Hasn’t been for me.
Is accepting help even more difficult? Has been for me.
But here’s the rub. We humanoids do nothing by ourselves. Don’t think so? Grab a pencil. Give it a look. Could you make the erasor? The metal band? The lead? The wood? The paint? And that’s just a “simple” pencil. What about your cell phone or computer? Even though (as an uber geek) I know what is inside them. No way I could make one.
What about for you, dear reader? Is asking for and accepting help easy? difficult? I’ve been working on it for 20 years. What I can say is — it’s easier to do now than it was 20 years ago.
“Rugged Individual” I don’t think so.
What to do? Ask for help. Accept the help that is offered. Practice Practice Practice.
Yours in Health and Happiness (and Asking), Cliff
