No happiness in Belize

xenophobia – “the irrational or unreasoned fear of that which is perceived to be foreign or strange”.

It saddens me that any one or any group would want to take their particular brand of hate or xenophobia from one country to another. I just don’t grok it. Probably never will.

Currently the religious right in the U.S. is exporting it’s hate of GLBT people to the country of Belize. It was already tough enough to be gay in Belize. With the help of these hate groups from the U.S., it is now downright dangerous to be gay in Belize.

Here is a short clip from SPLC about the new troubles for gay folk in Belize:

“As LGBT people continue making strides toward equality in the United States, hard-line U.S. religious-right groups that have spent decades demonizing them are focusing their attention – and propaganda – on a legal battle over the criminalization of LGBT sex in Belize, the outcome of which could affect criminal statutes in as many as a dozen other Caribbean countries, according to a SPLC report released today.”

If you don’t like gay folk, that’s cool. Just keep it to yourself. I have lots of dislikes. I just do my best to keep them locked away in my head. Letting them out on parole would be a very bad idea.
